Neocities
Neocities is a web hosting platform founded by Kyle Drake on May 23, 2013, and launched on June 28, 2013. It provides 10 megabytes of file storage for every user and was initially an archive for sites previously hosted on GeoCities before the latter's shutdown.
Neocities is a platform that enables users to create and host static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript websites without the support of server-side scripting languages such as PHP or databases. The platform has become popular among independent media websites, personal blogs, and portfolios. Users can publish their website to the internet for free without paying for server space, and unlock additional features by purchasing a paid plan. They can customize their website's appearance and functionality using Neocities' built-in editor or by writing their own code, and add interactive features like forms, animations, and games. Neocities offers a community that allows users to interact with each other by following each other's websites, leaving comments and feedback, and participating in community events and challenges. Furthermore, the platform's retro-inspired design and aesthetic pay homage to the early days of the web in the 1990s, featuring custom cursor icons, animated GIFs, and brightly colored backgrounds.
After the rise of screamers sites like Shafou.com, Killerjo.net, and Anne.jpg, several screamers sites made with Neocities also began to emerge from the platform, including Red Button and Cool Cute Cat. However, as a platform that allows users to create and publish their own websites, there is always the potential for malicious users to create and distribute harmful content through Neocities. This can include the use of malicious scripts, which are code snippets designed to perform unauthorized actions on a user's computer or device.
