Sonic2.exe is a creepypasta .exe game created and uploaded to Gamejolt by NovaWare on January 25th, 2014. It was created as an unofficial sequel to the first Sonic.exe game. The game revolves around Sonic's quest to save his friend Tails, despite sequels of the game will take on Tails' point of view in the series.

Story

The story takes place after Sonic's battle with Silver Sonic, during which he fails to collect all the Chaos emeralds needed to save his friend Tails. Sonic, determined to save Tails, decides to collect the emeralds by himself and heads towards South Island. However, Robotnik, his arch-nemesis, approaches Sonic with a deal. If Sonic succeeds in collecting all the emeralds, Robotnik will open a gate to "a lost paradise", allowing Sonic to save Tails. However, if Sonic fails, Robotnik will keep Tails captive and kill him. Despite the high stakes, Sonic chooses to run away. As Doomsday draws near, it seems like there is no way for Sonic to escape his fate, and the narrator bids farewell to Tails, unsure of what lies ahead.

Gameplay

The game starts in Act I, with the player taking control of Tails, who finds himself in a mysterious and dark world. Movement is achieved using the AWSD keys, while jumping and sprinting can be executed with the X and shift key respectively.[1] The world Tails spawns in is filled with platforms, some positioned above others, and there are rings scattered throughout, although collecting them appears to have no significant impact. Upon completing Act I, a cutscene plays as Tails falls into a pit of spikes, seemingly meeting his demise.

The gameplay transitions into a new level titled "Dawn of a New Day 0 Hours Remain." This level shares similarities with the Green Hill Zone, but against a slightly-dark plain blue background, an eerie chiptune plays. Sonic enters the terrain, encountering lifeless animals similar to the original Sonic.exe game. As Sonic approaches Tails, it cuts out to a short frame where Tails opens his eyes, revealing black irises with red pupils, and blood flows from both of his eyes. The scene is abruptly interrupted by static, followed by the "No signal" screen.

Subsequently, the game appears to restart with an intro. Players find themselves back in the game, with access to another level, "Sunshine" as Act 6. This level lacks terrain textures and backgrounds, instead being mostly covered by static. The player now primarily controls Sonic in a void where various sounds play in sequence. It starts with a radio-like buzzing sound, which gradually intensifies into a woman's scream, accompanied by increasing white noise.

The suspense from the increasing white noise builds up to a jumpscare moment. An image of Tails appears, depicted with gray eyes, showing only black pupils, bleeding from the eyes and ears, with hands covered in blood. This image coincides with the first verse of Can You Feel The Sunshine? from Sonic R, though it plays with an echo effect. The image culminates with a screamer, wherein a close-up of the grayscale image displays the text: "There is no sunshine."

The game concludes with the message: "But that doesn't mean this is the end." before closing abruptly.
